Restoration in a global biodiversity hotspot

In December of 2014 Ecuador announced forest landscape restoration and conservation commitments to Initiative 20x20 at a side event to the 20th Conference of the Parties to the UNFCCC in Lima, Peru. 500,000 hectares of restoration from these commitments are formal contributions to the Bonn Challenge goal.

About Initiative 20x20

Initiative 20x20 is a country-led effort to restore 20 million hectares of land in Latin America and the Caribbean by 2020. The initiative was launched formally at the 20th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change in Lima, Peru, in 2014. Of the 20 million hectares committed to Initiative 20x20, 11.1 million are expected to contribute to the Bonn Challenge from Mexico, Peru, Ecuador and Chile.
